The eponymous lark of Qatar and a resident breeder. Found in all habitats, and easily observed running on the ground or while flying low above the ground. Its distinctive crest is a good identification feature, as is the sweet melodious "deedle-diu" call. Its beautifully varied song is delivered from the ground or while hovering high, almost out of sight, in the air. It feeds on seeds and insects, and nests on the ground under tufts of grass and bushes.
