Two forms of large Grey Shrike occur: the resident breeding form, Arabian Grey Shrike, which is dark bluish grey above and steel grey on the underside; and the migrant/winter visitor, Steppe Grey Shrike, which breeds on the Asian steppes and is paler grey above and pinker below. Both forms will sit patiently on fences, wires, tree and bushes, before suddenly dropping onto the ground to catch large insects, small reptiles and even birds.
