A large and distinctive lark that is a resident breeder. Normally seen running on the ground, it favours rocky desert areas and sandy tracks. The long decurved bill is unique among Qatar's larks. When it flies, the wings are a blur of bold black and white stripes, which are unmistakeable. Usually seen alone or in pairs. In late winter and early spring, the males give their melodious, descending and ascending whistling song from a prominent perch.
