  • Description
  • A passage migrant and winter visitor, whose habit of hovering above fields and roadsides makes it a familiar sight. It feeds on small mammals and birds as well as insects. Occasionally, the Common Kestrel is seen in cities and towns, often resting on lampposts and tall buildings. The female's plumage is an undistinguished brown with black markings, while the male has a grey head and tail with distinctive black moustache and tail band.
