In its occurrence, size, shape and plumage this species is very similar to the Green Sandpiper. However, the yellow legs (olive green in Green Sandpiper), paler more spotted plumage as well as the pale stripe above the eye, are all useful distinguishing features. It is one of the world's great travellers, breeding just below the Arctic and migrating south to Arabia, sub-Saharan Africa, India and even Australia.
